Cheap Fish Eye Lenses…

Hey everyone,
I wanted to post a link to a site that has some decent fish eye lenses at very cheap prices. Of course they are not the quality of Canon or Nikon but do a pretty comparable job and are very fun.

They are Russian fish eyes and can be bought here at http://www.rugift.com/. We have one here that is 16mm, I would go for the 8mm personally. You have to adjust the apeture and focus on most of these manually, and they come with converter rings to fit what ever camera body you have (you just have to specify when ordering).

Check out there site, they have a small gallery on flickr if you want to see some of the other images they produce. Again, you will pay over a $1000 for Canon, Nikon, or even Sigma for a good fish eye. Rugift sells theirs anywhere from $200-$400. Fish eyes are not the first lens I use when reaching into the bag, but this is a good deal and worth the price if you just want to have fun with a fish eye.

Hope this helps you all.

Technical Series…

Hey everyone,
I want to spend our next four meetings discussing some basic photography principles. I know it may seem really basic to some, but I think it is important for everyone to know fundamentals. A lot of you have asked for this as well. We’ll spend about half our meeting on this and it will be kind of like a series. Here’s how I see it breaking down…

February 10 – Basic Camera Operation (camera functions, and how it records images)
March 10 – Defining Aperture, Shutter Speed, ISO, and White Balance.

April 14 – Taking photos in Manuel Mode, metering, etc…
May 12 – Situational Photography, how to shoot in the dark, bright, low light, etc…

Bring your cameras to the next 4 meetings. We’ll try some things out, should be fun. Don’t sweat it if all you have is a point and shoot, these things everyone should know, and will help you figure out your camera needs in the future.

For our Canon SLR users…

I love this site. If you ever wanted to know something about Canon’s current series of lenses, or are thinking about making a purchase this is the place to visit. They have sample photos and break down each lens with pros and cons.
